The Southeast’s Most
Trusted Independent Seed
Supplier Since 1973.
Mixon Seed is proud of our long and rich history in the seed business, providing turnkey production, sales, and logistics solutions to serve retailers and farmers across the Southeast. Our company was founded in 1973 by Danny Mixon, who is widely recognized for being a leader in developing the seed industry in the South.
Being a customer-centric company has always been dominant in Mixon Seed’s DNA. In the early years, Danny would visit 15 to 20 customers a day, and cover a territory spanning 300 miles….all the while cultivating a loyal following of clientele as well as legendary status as a seed expert.
Mixon Seed’s commitment to provide unmatched customer satisfaction and seed technical support remains as strong as ever. For generations now, retailers and farmers know that all they have to do is call Mixon Seed to receive expert advice from some of the most knowledgeable minds in the industry.
Today, a locally owned company with regional scope, Mixon Seed is known for our ready and diverse supply of high quality, high yield seed varieties, for our wildlife and cover crop blends, as well as for our quick turnaround of orders and reliable delivery. We operate our own fleet, employ our own drivers, and have two distributions centers in Orangeburg, SC and Newton, GA to assure timely order fulfillment. We’re a small company equipped to handle big volumes – over 1.1 million bags of seed annually. Most of all, we’re dedicated to your growth and prosperity.
In 2019, Robert Etheridge purchased Mixon Seed. Born and raised near Orangeburg, in Bowman SC, Robert grew up working on the farm and knew of Mixon Seed from the time he was a teenager – over 30 years ago.
The AG Business has always been in Robert’s blood. He achieved his BS, Masters and PhD in Agronomy and Crop Science, and then forged a highly successful 20-year career working for industry giants DuPont and Pioneer® that had him traveling all over North America and Asia. What more could he want?
What Robert wanted most was the opportunity to run his own company, and to apply his extensive R&D, sales and marketing expertise to help it grow. He set his sights on Mixon Seed, a company that was literally in his own backyard, and one he knew firsthand was “a really good business run by really good people.”
In 2018, he approached Danny Mixon, and son Chris Mixon, who were open to a transition plan. According to Chris, they were willing to pass the torch, but only to the right person. It would have to be somebody of character, with the same morals, who would embrace the company’s history, culture and steadfast commitment to providing quality products, services and customer satisfaction.
According to Robert, “Our goal is to build on the strong legacy of service already in place. Mixon Seed is poised for growth and focused on providing greater data accessibility and scalable solutions to serve our customer’s unique needs.”
