Wheat Planting Tips
The University of Georgia provides some very GOOD tips on planting wheat this year. Here are some for wheat seeding rates and wheat planting dates.
Please plant Varieties like Pioneer 26R10, 26R20, and 26R22 seven to ten days earlier than the normal planting date if you are below PERRY Georgia.
I prefer about 35 seed per square foot which is about 22 seed per foot of row in 7.5 inch rows with 90+ germ wheat. Look at seed count on the bag and plant about 1,500,000 seed per acre or 115 pounds if the seed count is 13,000 per pound.
Be sure to pre-plant with 30 to 40 pound of N and a minimum of 15 pounds of Sulfur, follow soil test for other nutrients and pay close attention to manganese this year. I saw wide spread manganese problems last year.
Each year you may hear of growers making 90+ bu/acre wheat and they do….
You must treat Wheat as a profitable crop and this year it is at over $8.00 per bu.
Good Growing!
